My New Favorite Quote:

"All can walk where Jesus walked when, with His words on our lips, His spirit in our hearts, and His teachings in our lives, we journey through mortality. I would hope that we would walk as he walked with confidence in the future, with an abiding faith in His Father, and with a genuine love for others." President Thomas S. Monson

The importance of reading scriptures (according to Sam)

Cory  had overnight drill this weekend. He missed out on a fun Psych party at Matt and Abby's. We got home after the boys bedtime, so we said a quick family prayer and I promptly sent them to bed without reading scriptures.  Dallin woke up somewhere around 2:00. I decided to let him cry this one out. After listening to him scream for 2 1/2 hours - he FINALLY went back to sleep. I on the other hand, laid there for what seemed like another 1/2 hour trying to go back to sleep. I had just dozed off when I was jolted out of my bed by the sound of the smoke alarms! It lasted about 20 seconds for whatever reason. Don't know why. In that 20 seconds, I ran first to Dallin's room and grabbed him out of his crib. As I'm doing this I hear Ammon and Sam running for their lives upstairs. They were screaming and crying as they ran out the front door. Whew! They were safe. I then ran to the twins room. They were sound asleep, oblivious to anything going on. As I'm trying to roust them out of bed, the alarms stopped. Ziki just climbed back into bed as if nothing had happened. Ben never even stirred. I didn't smell smoke or notice anything wrong, thank goodness. I went and got Ammon and Sam who were still out in the front yard crying. Knowing how scared we all were, I let them get in bed with me and reassured them that everything was okay. We lay there for some time, hearts racing. Dallin decided since he was now awake he needed to eat. I finally suggested to Ammon he should say a prayer and thank Heavenly Father for keeping us safe. He quickly rolled over and said his own little prayer. Next I asked Sam if he was okay. His response, "Mom. I think I know why the smoke alarms went off." Me not knowing what to expect: "Why?"  Sam: "Because we didn't read our scriptures last night." Whoa! I certainly wasn't expecting that. That will teach me, won't it!

3 now let's hear it from you:

Of course it happens when Cory isn't there. Shoot. Sam is a good kid and it is an excellent reminder. I know when I send my kids off to school without doing scripture study the entire day feels off.

Cute story, but I agree...ours did that and we were told that when the batteries start to fizzle they will do wierd things. Ours are connected (top and bottom floor) and we had to have several replaced.
